Brixham College A level students celebrate highest number of top grades EVER

Brixham College, which continues its tradition of high academic achievement and expectations for all, is celebrating a phenomenal set of A Level results, recording its highest ever A* – B pass rate.

Demonstrating that it doesn’t ever stand still, the top A level results achieved from within Brixham College’s relatively new, state of the art sixth form centre have been on a steep upward trajectory since its first students were awarded their fantastic set of grades in 2016.  The pass rate for A* to B grades amongst this year’s cohort of 30, a particular area of focus for the sixth form team, has now skyrocketed to an amazing 45% with more students than ever before achieving A* and A grades.

Amongst the 15 subjects offered, 12 subjects achieved a 100% pass rate this year (Applied Science, Art, Biology, Business Studies, English Literature, Geography, Graphics, History, Photography, Psychology, Sociology and Sport). The results have reinforced the quality of teaching across the College, particularly in the Science faculty which was highlighted by Ofsted in its 2018 findings. A Distinction star was also celebrated in BTEC Applied Science and Cambridge Technical Sport.

“We’re extremely proud of the students and our incredibly talented team of teaching and support staff.  We’re also delighted with the results!” says Tracey Hale, Vice Principal with responsibility for KS5 Outcomes.  “Students have demonstrated an outstanding level of dedication, commitment, hard work and endeavour across a range of subjects.  With the support and perseverance of family and staff, they’ve been rewarded with yet another set of excellent A Level and Level 3 qualifications which we will continue to build upon.  It’s been a great team effort, with everyone achieving their potential and we wish them well as they embark on the next stage of their lives,” she adds.

Once again, Brixham College is celebrating some excellent individual performances with all students planning to go to University being successful.  Amongst notable student successes this year, Connor Togher and Michael O’Shea achieved impressive results. Connor achieved an A* in Biology, A in Chemistry and an A in Mathematics. Michael achieved an A in Mathematics, A in Physics and a B in Chemistry.

“I just want to say thank you to the teachers and all the Sixth Form staff, I couldn’t have been luckier with my choice of Sixth form” says Connor Togher.

Impressive results were also picked up by Jodie Powder and Aleasha Vaughan. Jodie achieved an A* in Photography and a B in Business Studies whilst Aleasha achieved an A* in Photography, B in Graphics and a B in Art and Design.

“I am so happy with what I have achieved” explains Aleasha “and I would love to thank all the teachers and staff who have got me this far”.

“In light of the changes to examinations, and new A level specifications, it has been a challenging transition period for everyone involved but the quality of this year’s results reflects the professionalism of staff in ensuring students are prepared to meet the rigour of these examinations, and the success of the students indicates how much pride they take in their progress. As our A*-B pass rate goes from strength to strength, we look forward to the future with our current intake,” says Jason Haines, head of Sixth Form at Brixham College.
