It’s Official – Best A Level Results Ever!

“IT’S OFFICIAL:  SIXTH FORM CENTRE AT BRIXHAM COLLEGE IS THE BEST IT’S EVER BEEN

This year’s A level results are out and it’s been another fantastic year for the high tech, state of the art, Sixth Form Centre at Brixham College.  Its academic achievement is at an all-time high, grades at the top end have increased, the overall pass rate is the highest it’s ever been, and its students are celebrating the highest number of A* grades achieved in a single sitting.

The upward trajectory of sky-rocketing grades has continued for Brixham’s relatively new Sixth Form Centre since its first cohort recorded an impressive set of results in 2016.  This year’s phenomenal stats have bucked the national trend with an increase in top grades and a overall pass rate well above the national figure.  This years results included 8 A* grades, an overall pass rate of 99.2% and a 9% increase on last year’s record-breaking A*-B pass rate.

As in previous years, the echoing sentiment felt across the results hall was all about the teachers!  “I wouldn’t have done it without my teachers,’ said Sophie Voisey who was one of the eight students to celebrate a straight A performance (A*A*A).

‘The support has been really great, it’s not just you working for the grades it’s the teachers helping you all of the way with it,” said Caitlin Farley who is going to be studying Biomedical Science at Cardiff University after securing three grade Bs in Chemistry, Biology and Maths.

Molly Wallis who is off to Penryn University to study Marine Science (A*AB) continued the praise for the sixth form staff:  “It’s been the best two years of my life and I wouldn’t have got the grades without the teachers. Thank you to the teachers for believing in me!’

Amber Smith (AAB) who accepted a place at the University of Manchester to study International Relations and Politics sums it all up: “I want to hold on to this feeling as I know I won’t get it again. I love my teachers, they never said I couldn’t do it, they just kept telling me to keep working hard’.

“Our sixth form students continue to amaze us and as always, we’re extremely proud of their work ethic, motivation and endeavour,” says principal Mark Eager, who also took the opportunity to acknowledge and praise the professionalism of his staff and the efforts of the parents who continue to fuel their success. “It’s been an incredible team effort with yet another brilliant year of results as the reward,” he adds.

“What a fantastic set of results, our best ever!” says Head of Sixth Form Jason Haines.  “The increase in the top grades and overall pass rate clearly shows that hard work and determination pays off!  The quality of the grades we achieve year after year is a great reflection on our talented team of teaching staff, how much time they invest in our students and how much pride they take in their progress.” he adds.

Once again, Brixham College is celebrating some excellent individual results, including straight A performances from Annie Glover (A*, A*,A), Allesandro Difilippo (AAA) and Sophie Voisey (A* A* A).  Repeating the success of previous years, a range of Russell Group Universities also feature in this year’s variety of student destinations, to include Oxbridge.

“I’m absolutely delighted for our students, staff and parents.  The results are exceptional and a true reflection of how working in partnership and building strong relationships leads to fantastic success for all.  Staff have given everything to achieve the best for our students and highlighted our particular strengths in Art, Graphic Design, Biology, Sociology and Psychology.  I want to thank our dedicated and caring parents for their amazing support too!  The results are brilliant news for our whole learning community.  Well done to all!” says Tracey Hale, vice principal with responsibility for KS5 outcomes.
