It’s Samba style Futsal for the Year 11 lads…..
Congratulations to the Year 11 Futsal team who have just gone through to the County finals after coming runners up in the Torbay Schools Under 16 tournament held at Paignton College.
The Brixham lads ground out some fantastic results to make the final only to lose 1-0 to Torquay Boys Grammar A in a closely contested final which Brixham dominated in terms of chances created but couldn’t find the net.
In the group games Brixham showed their resilience by coming from 3-0 down in the opening game to draw 3-3 with Newton Abbot College but then suffered their first defeat with a 4-2 loss to Coombeshead Academy.
This result seemed to wake the Brixham lads up and after going 1-0 down against TBGS B, came back strong to turn the deficit around & win 2-1. The final group game was a must win game in order for Brixham to progress to the semi final & after going 2-0 down against a very strong Paignton side & the favourites for the competition, the Brixham lads again found another gear to claw themselves back into the game scoring two excellent goals & a last minute winner to take them through.
The team were then drawn against a well organised Churston Grammar side who had topped their group in what looked like a mouthwatering semi final. From the first whistle Brixham showed their skill & determination to take an early lead only for Churston to hit straight back with a deflected effort. Again Brixham dug in and showed their class by scoring two excellently worked goals much to the dismay of the opposition to secure a place in the final against TBGS A.
Unfortunately Brixham suffered a 1-0 defeat but along with TBGS A they will go on to represent Torbay in the County Finals to be held in February 2018. Well done lads & congratulations on a great effort & some superb football. Good luck in the finals!
