Pioneer House

Students are allocated to one of the four Houses :

Phoenix

Phoenix House is led by Mr Tippett.  As with the other three houses, the name ‘Phoenix’ was taken from an old Brixham fishing trawler which sailed out of the port in the 1880’s.  It was built in 1820 and spent over 50 years successfully fishing in the local waters before being tragically lost at sea in 1876 off Berry Head.

In true Phoenix tradition Mr Tippett believes that students in this House show a determination and desire to succeed and even in the face of adversity will rise up from the ashes to achieve their individual and group success as a House.

Inspire

Venture House is led by Mr Whittington.

Welcome to Venture.

Venture’s name also drives from an old local Trawler which was sold off to Belgium in 1914.
Venture’s definition means ‘to go somewhere whilst being daring and bold’ Taken from the word ‘Adventure’ means opening new worlds and exploring new opportunities and experiences for all at Brixham College. Venture’s aim is to encourage and motivate whilst raising attainment and enjoyment for all. In addition, venturing to promote, cultivate and recognise success and achievement.

This has meant working closely with tutors and setting pupils targets. Already we have celebrated success with those who have done well in their school reports and made a positive contribution to the year. I am particularly looking forward to rewarding pupils for their final reports. The house also joins together for regular assemblies sharing our successes. House Representatives from each tutor group will have an opportunity to feedback and share their ideas on how to continue building Venture’s House.

Venture House Charity is the NSPCC and we have raised considerable sums of money over the last 5 years.  If any pupils have fundraising ideas please ask your tutor or just pop in and see me, I would welcome parent participation with House suggestions and ideas too!

Inspire

Inspire House is led by Head of House Mr Ridge.  The House was named after the ketch ‘Inspire’ which was built in Brixham in 1924.  It sailed under the boat number BM 13, which Mr Ridge laughs off as being an unlucky number and he is keen to point out that the vessel is now sailing in Australia.

Students in Inspire House create a winning ethos which rubs off on everyone; success comes to those who are willing to work hard in order to achieve their goals.

Pioneer

Mr Birchall is the Head of House.  The name ‘Pioneer’ originates from an old 45.57 smack fishing vessel.  It was built in 1877 in Brixham and sailed out of Dartmouth under the number DH14 for 20 years.  Unfortunately, she eventually caught fire and floundered off Turnchapel and was towed into Brixham for breaking in 1897.

Pioneer means ‘explorer’ it seems apt as students in Pioneer House are preparing their way for the challenges which lie ahead.  It’s this sort of attitude that Mr Birchall wants to see from members of his House as they face up to the daily challenges that come their way.
