Brixham College has been recognized by Ofsted (November 2008) as providing an outstanding curriculum that provides extremely well for all students. The identification of, and enrichment for, gifted and talented students and those with learning difficulties and or disabilities are integral to the curriculum. The curriculum is enhanced considerably by a wide range of activities including sports, music, visual and performing arts and a variety of educational and recreational trips both home and abroad. These are well supported by students and are very much valued by them and their parents.

The college currently runs an extensive programme of residential and enrichment activities which are branded out to students under the title of “Xtra”.
Trips are organized both at home and abroad targeting specific students throughout their academic years utilizing partnership projects under schemes such as:

  • Comenius through The British Council
  • Gifted & talented Provision for gifted and talented
  • Reducing disaffection
  • Enrichment programme of subjects
  • Raising global awareness
  • Raising aspirations
  • Provision of study camps
  • Promoting healthy living

We ensure each activity fits in closely with our enrichment indicators, college ethos, specialist status and the Every Child Matters (ECM) agenda. This is monitored through our residential application process required from any staff proposal to run a trip of any sort. We also look at how it fits in with our college learning plan

International Links

Why is international experience so important?

Our global links at the College allow us a unique opportunity to raise standards in all areas of the curriculum, They also have an impact and influence on teaching and learning. We want to raise the aspirations of all students with particular emphasis on emotional literacy, creativity and the arts, internationalism and environmental sustainability. International experiences raise expectations and help broaden the horizons of young people, especially as Brixham is in the geographical position of having one road in and one road out. Reaching out globally allows us to understand other cultures and develop a multi-cultural perspective to education at Brixham. Our networking with schools across the globe allows us to understand the real world.

Our aims are as follows

1) Brixham College will promote an international dimension in ALL aspects of school life.
